A vigilance officer in Ahmedabad fell victim to a cyber fraud, losing Rs 9 lakh through a fake work-from-home job scheme that promised easy earnings.

A guy in Ahmedabad got tricked online. He lost 9 lakh rupees. This happened because of a fake work-from-home job. It was on a Telegram channel. He worked as a vigilance officer. He told the cybercrime police about it on Saturday.
The fraud happened in September 2024. They made him think he would earn money doing tasks. The group had people add products to wish lists. They also had them do other simple things.
At first, he got small payments. This made him believe it was real. Then, they asked him to pay before getting bigger rewards. They gave him several bank accounts. They said he’d make more money by investing more.
He trusted them. He kept sending them money. He used his wife’s and mom’s accounts too. He paid almost 8.75 lakh rupees overall.
When he tried to take his money, they made up new tasks. He had to keep paying for them. He could not get any money back. Then, he knew he was fooled. He called the cybercrime helpline. He also made a formal complaint.
The cybercrime police took his complaint. They filed a case of fraud. They added charges of breaking trust. The case also involves a criminal plan. They also used the Information Technology Act in this case.
